Community habilitation supports people in accomplishing goals that are important to them. People receiving community habilitation may live in their own home, may live with their family, or may live with a few peers. A community support staff may support a person in his or her home or in the larger community. Here are some examples of things you may partner with someone to accomplish as a support staff working in community habilitation:
- Help someone with healthy lifestyle changes, such as starting a regular exercise routine, learning about healthy eating, preparing food, and connecting with family and friends more regularly.
- Support someone in giving back to the community through helping him find meaningful volunteer opportunities in his home town.
- Partner with someone to accomplish a personal goal such as learning to cook safely for themselves. You may assist someone with finding recipes, gathering ingredients, learning about food safety and preparing her meals.
