After a four-day comprehensive review, the agency’s Compass status has been renewed for another year, recognizing Heritage Christian Services as a top service provider in New York State for 20 consecutive years.
Out of more than 600 providers in New York state, we are one of just four organizations to be recognized with this award of distinction this year. We were first named a Compass agency in 2002 and have maintained that designation every year since.
In the 1990s, the Compass program was designed by OPWDD and agencies that demonstrated dependable focus on person-centered processes, to help elevate health and safety compliance and bolster valued outcomes. To receive this special designation, provider agencies must consistently provide quality supports and services that exceed minimal regulatory requirements.
The validation visit, with 11 reviewers from OPWDD’s Division of Quality Improvement, took place over four days in June. Among their findings:
In particular, they said that our response to the Covid-19 pandemic was especially quick, flexible and innovative.
They were also inspired by the level of engagement and team spirit throughout the organization, specifically celebrating site managers for all they do to meet the needs of the individuals, all while working to ensure a welcoming, inclusive environment for the staff too. Additionally, our on-call nursing structure was lauded as a great model to ensure that people get the best care.
Our person-centered approach is evident in all we do. Thank you to EVERY team member who every day contributes to the quality of care that Heritage Christian Services is known for. I couldn’t be prouder of our day-to-day efforts, and this certification is reinforcement of a job well done.
